The Rainbow Shell is an item that's required for The Mysterious Qi quest. You can obtain the Rainbow Shell at the Traveling Cart shop, and during summer by foraging at the beach. It can be sold for up to 600 gold. It has no known uses outside of The Mysterious Qi quest.

The Rainbow Shell is found via foraging at The Beach in the Summer. It may also spawn on the Beach Farm during any season or in The Mines after activating the Shrine of Challenge or during the Danger In The Deep quest. It can also be obtained through the Traveling Cart for 900–1,500g. It may also be sent in the mail as a gift from Demetrius or received as a gift from Jas, Vincent or Leo at the Feast of the Winter Star. A Rainbow Trout Fish Pond has a 2% chance to produce 1 Rainbow Shell daily when the population of the pond reaches 9.

Item spawning in Stardew Valley isn't accomplished through typical commands. Instead, it involves a cheat method where you name your character, or an animal, with the item code of the desired item, enclosed in square brackets [ and ]. Include the brackets when naming.

Spawn Using Animal Name

To spawn this item, buy an animal (we recommend a chicken because it is the cheapest) from Marnie's Ranch, name it [394]. You will then receive the Rainbow Shell item.

Spawn Using Character Name

Since you can only set your character's name once at the game's inception, we advise using the animal naming method.

However, if you opt for this method, name your character [394] while creating your save file. When you converse with any villager who mentions your name in their dialogue, like Gus at the Stardrop Saloon, you'll receive the Rainbow Shell item.
